Intent to Apply for Help with Rent & Utility Bills

  1. There is a new program created by the Iowa Finance Authority to help Iowa residents with rent and utility bills. The program, called the Iowa Rent and Utility Assistance Program, is for eligible residential renters who have been impacted by COVID-19. The program is expected to begin in March 2021.
  2. Do You Qualify?
    According to the Iowa Finance Authority, eligibility requirements include:
  3. • Someone in the household has qualified for unemployment benefits, OR the household has experienced reduced household income, significant costs, or other financial hardship due to COVID-19.
  4. • The household can show a risk of homelessness or housing instability. This may include a past due utility or rent notice or eviction notice.
  5. • Households have incomes of no more than 80% of Area Median Income (AMI) (see chart below).
  6. • Eligible households rent their home.

    If you are eligible and plan to apply for the Iowa Rent and Utility Assistance Program, please answer the questions below.
  9. If your answers qualify, your utility bill account with the City of Coralville will temporarily be exempt from late fees and water shut off. Our goal is to help keep your water on.
