About Van Allen
Children from both North Liberty and the city of Coralville make up the attendance area of Van Allen Elementary, which is part of the Iowa City Community School District.

Van Allen was the first elementary school west of the Mississippi to receive a Silver LEED certification for their environmentally friendly building.  The building features natural lighting, recycled building materials, geothermal heating and cooling, and natural landscaping.

The facility houses 25 elementary classrooms (K-6), one preschool classroom, a multi-purpose room, media center, and a regulation size gymnasium.  The multi-purpose room can be used by the community for a variety of purposes outside of the school day.  A unique partnership between the City of Coralville and the Iowa City Community School District provides extensive opportunities for the development and use of the building and grounds as a joint recreational and educational facility.

Open Gym
Van Allen holds a free open gym night on Sunday and Tuesday evenings from 6:00-9:00 pm when school is in session.  Open gym is not available during Thanksgiving or winter breaks, or in the event of a school cancellation.  Children must be accompanied by a supervising parent or guardian.
