Back-to-School Traffic Safety

Reminders for drivers and pedestrians

ICCSD classes start August 23

As students and teachers return to class, it's time to brush up on back-to-school traffic safety.

Passing a school bus with a stop arm extended or flashing red or amber lights is illegal. This can result in a citation of at least $250 or up to 30 days in jail, and a 30-day suspension of your driving privileges. School bus safety

When approaching a marked school zone, obey the posted speed limit and watch for children crossing the street. Coralville police officers patrol school zones before and after school every day to ensure the safety of our community's children. Do your part and obey the laws in and around our neighborhood school zones.

Coral Ridge Ave improvements

Construction Update

Coral Ridge Avenue

The last stretch of work on Coral Ridge Avenue from Oakdale Boulevard to Forevergreen Road is nearing substantial completion.

Coral Ridge Avenue is reduced to one lane in each direction while crews continue work on stormwater bio-retention cells along both sides of the street. The goal is to have all lanes, intersections, and sidewalks open before school starts on August 23. Coral Ridge Ave

Northbound 1st Avenue is reduced to one lane until August 21 from south of 6th Street (near Burger King) to north of E. 7th Street (near Arby's). Business and sidewalk access is maintained.

The lane reduction is necessary to make repairs on several storm sewer intake tops along the east side of 1st Avenue. All four lanes of 1st Avenue are to be open on the first day of school on August 23.  Finishing 1st

Road Work

Work is scheduled to wrap up on the following pavement projects, with impacted streets expected to open on or before August 20:

  • 14th Avenue between 9th and 10th Street
