Summer Food Programs

Healthy food to help with meals

Coralville's Summer Lunch Sacks help ensure that families in Coralville have access to healthy food during the summer, when there is no school lunch to rely on for meals.

Any family that lives in Coralville is eligible to sign up; Lunch Sacks have simple meal components to supplement meals at home, and are picked up on specific dates throughout the summer. Lunch Sack program

Snacks & activities for kids

The Summer Snax program for ages 2-18 provides a free snack and activity most weekdays this summer.

Food is provided by local businesses, and activities include everything from cooking and crafts to basketball and board games! Children younger than 8 should be accompanied by a supervising adult or older sibling.  Summer Snax program

Fireworks Safety

Shooting off fireworks will fizzle your fun

If you are thinking about shooting off fireworks this holiday weekend, think again.

It is still illegal to use fireworks in Coralville (unless you are an insured operator approved by the City). The same applies in many surrounding communities. Be a good neighbor in Coralville: don't shoot off fireworks. Fireworks

Construction Updates

Finishing 1st

We are on the home stretch of the 1st Avenue reconstruction between 6th and 9th Streets! Crews this week worked on pavement markings, brick paver installation, landscaping, and cleanup.

There will still be some limited lane reductions while crews wrap up the final touches, but both southbound lanes are open between 6th and 9th Streets, and both northbound lanes are open north of the railroad crossing at 6th Street.

The project should be substantially complete by the end of the day on May 24. Finishing 1st

Coral Ridge Avenue

The last stretch of work on Coral Ridge Avenue from Oakdale Boulevard to Forevergreen Road continues. Work this week included the street connections at the Wheaton Road and University Parkway intersections, the east-west crosswalk subslabs and pavers through the northbound lanes of Coral Ridge Avenue, and median brick pavers and landscaping.

Traffic runs head-to-head on the west half of Coral Ridge Avenue between University Parkway and Forevergreen Road until late May, when it shifts to single lanes on the correct side of the center median until late June.
