Filing Deadline Nears for City Election Candidates

Are you planning to run as a candidate for City Council or Mayor in the November 2015 Coralville city election? The candidate filing deadline is Thursday, September 17 at the Johnson County Auditor’s Office.  Learn more

Iowa DOT Hosts Meeting to Discuss I-80/I-380 Interchange

Tuesday, September 29 | 5:00-6:30 pm

The Iowa Department of Transportation will host a public meeting at the Coralville Public Library to informally discuss the proposed improvements of the I-80/I-380/U.S. 218/Iowa 27 interchange in Johnson County. Learn more

PLAYvolution: Unstructured, Unplugged, Unlimited Play

PLAYvolution continues in Coralville through September 20. Upcoming events include: 
  • Sounds of Summer: tailgating games and the Beaker Brothers at the Iowa River Landing for the last summer concert (September 17) 
  • Adult open volleyball and free evening swim at the Coralville indoor pool (September 18) 
  • Explore Rotary Camp Park: walk in the woods, complete a nature scavenger hunt, or cook s’mores over a campfire (September 19)

Save the Dates to Clean Up!

Community Shred Event

Saturday, October 3 | 8:00 am-noon

Do you have personal papers to shred? Bring them to the City Hall Parking Lot, 1512 7th Street, and North Cedar Recycling will take care of the secure shredding! Learn more

Mayor's Clean up Week

October 5-9

Set out big items, such as wrecked furniture or washed-up bathroom fixtures, for free pickup on trash day. Learn more. Here are a few tips:
  • For unwanted (but usable) building and housing materials and appliances, consider donating them to ReStore.
  • If you have a large amount of cardboard to recycle, due to excessive cardboard collection during Mayor’s Clean Up Week consider setting it out the week before or after Mayor’s Clean Up Week. Or, take it to the Coralville Recycling Center.

A slightly haunted 5K, zombie party, & movie

Saturday, October 3 

A zombie parade and 5K run/walk on the Clear Creek Trail with other ghouls will be a spooky good time, followed by a dance party and a showing of the 1968 Night of the Living Dead. Not interested in the 5K? Sign up for just the after events! Discount registration ends September 20; proceeds benefit the Coralville Center for the Performing Arts and City Circle Acting Company. Construction Updates

Coral Ridge Avenue

Work on Coral Ridge Avenue from Holiday Road to Oakdale Boulevard continues. Individual lane closures are needed to finalize work in the center median and shoulder, including cable guardrail installation. Four lanes are expected to open in late September.

Forevergreen Road

Forevergreen Road is closed between Coral Ridge Avenue/Highway 965 and Ridgeway Drive for road improvements as part of the Hy-Vee under construction on the southeast corner of Forevergreen Road and Crosspark Road. Road reopening is expected by the end of September.

Autumn is near, but the Coralville Farmers’ Market is still open! Stop by the Coralville Community Aquatic Center parking lot on Mondays through October 5 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Learn more

Novel Conversations: To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee

Children kindergarten age or older can practice reading to a licensed therapy dog from Therapy Dogs of Johnson County. Registration begins a week before the event. Learn more

Stage on the Page: William Shakespeare’s Land of the Dead by John Heimbuch

Thursday, September 24 | 10:00 am

A mash-up of Shakespeare’s Henry V and zombie attack, this play is a “true and accurate account of the Elizabethan zombie plague” (Samuel French). Learn more
