School Zone

Back-to-School Traffic Safety

Reminders for drivers and pedestrians

As students and teachers return to class, it’s time to brush up on back-to-school traffic safety:

  • When approaching a marked school zone, obey the posted speed limit and watch for children crossing the street.
  • Passing a school bus with a stop arm extended or flashing red lights is illegal. This can result in a citation of at least $250 or up to 30 days in jail, and a 30-day suspension of your driving privileges.

Coralville police officers patrol school zones before and after school every day to ensure the safety of our community’s children. Do your part and obey the laws in and around our neighborhood school zones. Learn more
