Open House: Iowa River Landing Reinvestment District

Thursday, August 18 | 5:00-7:00 pm

At the Coralville Public Library

Learn more about the Iowa River Landing Reinvestment District, see the district plans, and check out the latest drawings of the proposed Iowa Arena. Staff from the City of Coralville and the Iowa City/Coralville Area Convention and Visitors Bureau will be on hand to answer questions. Learn more

Reimagine 5th

5th Street Celebration & Street Dance

Save the dates: August 19 & 20

Just like Mayor Edward Koser proclaimed a street dance in 1921 when 5th Street was first paved, we’re celebrating the newly-completed reconstruction and renewal of one of Coralville’s most historic streets. Save the dates!

  • August 19: Old Town Hall dedication and reception at 4:00 pm.
  • August 20: Business open house on 5th Street, Old Town Hall and 1876 Schoolhouse open, kids’ activities at Old Town Hall, street dance starting at 6:00 pm, and beverage garden hosted by Backpocket Brewery.

Construction news

Summer Construction Updates

Pavement repair on 8th Street

Work continues on pavement repair on 8th Street between the Recreation Center and Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. The street is expected to reopen in mid August. Learn more

25th Avenue & Mall Ring Road

Reconstruction at 25th Avenue & Mall Ring Road continues. The intersection is closed to traffic, and mall traffic on Highway 6 is detoured to the mall entrance next to U-Haul. The intersection is expected to partially reopen by August 22. Learn more

12th Avenue & Holiday Road

Work continues on the 12th Avenue & Holiday Road mini-roundabout corner enhancements. The north leg is closed during the first phase, and the second phase will close the south leg. All work will be complete before August 22. Learn more

Tickets on Sale for FRYfest
High Porch Block Party

Hairball | September 2

Wristbands are on sale for $5 for the High Porch Block Party—which includes Hairball in concert, bags games, a kids zone, and fireworks—September 2 at FRYfest. 

FRYfest is at Coralville’s Iowa River Landing and all events, except the High Porch Block Party, are free. This year’s celebration highlights Hawkeye rivalries! Learn more

It’s a Mystery Book Discussion

Wednesday, August 10 | 10:00 am

Join us for a discussion of Maggie Nelson’s The Red Parts. In 1969, Maggie Nelson’s aunt was found dead. For decades, it was assumed she was a victim of a serial killer. This crime book/memoir is Nelson’s account of what came after DNA evidence pointed to a new suspect in 2004. Learn more
