The Iowa Homeowner Assistance Fund (IHAF) program assists eligible homeowners with mortgage payments and related property expenses, including property taxes and homeowner's insurance. All program payments are made directly to mortgage servicers or other payees on behalf of eligible homeowners.
Eligibility Requirements
- Applicant must own the property*
- Applicant must be at least 30 days behind on payments for mortgage, contract sale, manufactured home or property taxes
- Applicant household income does not exceed the greater of 150% of the area median income or 100% of the U.S. median income
- Property is in Iowa and is the applicant’s primary residence
- Applicant experienced and/or can demonstrate a COVID-related financial hardship
*Applicants who do not own property but are buying under a legally recorded contract or are making manufactured lot rent payments are eligible to apply.
Eligible Past Due Expenses
Eligible households may receive one time assistance up to $25,000 to assist with past due payments, including:
- Mortgage Payments
- Property Taxes
- Homeowner’s Insurance
- Homeowner Association Fees
- Manufactured Home/Lot Rent Payments
- Land Contract Payments
