Starting Friday afternoon, November 10, the bicyclist and pedestrian route along 1st Avenue over I-80 will use a new trail alignment.

Starting Friday afternoon, November 10, 2023, the bicyclist and pedestrian route along 1st Avenue over I-80 will shift from the west side of 1st Avenue to the east side of 1st Avenue. 

Bicyclists and pedestrians will use the new trail alignment along the east side of 1st Avenue from the northeast corner of E. 9th Street, through two new trail tunnels, over the new trail bridge, to the River Products/Hotel intersection, and then back to the west side of 1st Avenue via a pedestrian crosswalk signal. (See the dashed blue line in the map at the bottom).

The existing trail along the west side of 1st Avenue between E. 9th Street and the Hotel entrance will be removed with the next phase of interchange reconstruction.  

The Iowa Department of Transportation is managing this project. Please check their 511ia.org website for project updates and real-time traffic conditions.
