The Office of Mayor and two City Council positions will be on the ballot for the 2023 Coralville City election on November 7.  Coralville has five City Council members who serve overlapping four-year terms. The Mayor serves a two-year term.

One of the council seats fills the seat of Keith Jones, who was appointed in June 2022 to fill the remainder of a term. The council seat held by appointee Jones will be filled immediately by the elected City Council candidate with the most votes once the canvass of votes is completed on November 14, 2023. The City Council candidate with the second-highest vote total and the Mayor will both take office on January 1, 2024.

Running for Office
Candidates running for Coralville City Council or Mayor may officially declare their candidacy by filing nomination papers with the Johnson County Auditor during the filing period from August 28 through September 21, 2023, at 5:00 pm.

Coralville's nomination process is nomination by petition, with one election. Candidates are required to have a minimum of 50 signatures from registered voters residing in Coralville on their petitions. Nomination papers can be picked up at the Johnson County Auditor's Office, 913 S. Dubuque Street, Iowa City, or available at the Iowa Secretary of State website.
