Coralville Accepting Applications for Boards & Commissions

The City Council of the City of Coralville is accepting applications for appointments to the following Boards and Commisions:

Board of Adjustment: 2 openings
The Board of Adjustment approves or denies variances of the Coralville Zoning Regulations, hears appeals of people aggrieved or affected by decisions of the Zoning Administrator, and decides if special exception uses of property are acceptable. (City Code; CH. 165.53) Meetings are the third Monday of each month at 6:00 pm. Each opening is for a 5-year term expiring December 31, 2026. About the Board of Adjustment 

Coralville Arts Commission: 3 openings (Two full 3-year terms and one partial term ending December 31, 2022. Up to 2 positions can be filled by residents of Johnson County.) 
The Coralville Arts Commission recommends and reviews policies, rules, regulations, ordinances and budgets relating to the Center for the Performing Arts and cultural functions of the City and makes such reports to the Council as the Commission deems in the public interest. (City Code, CH. 27) Meetings are the second Tuesday of the month at noon. About the Arts Commission

Coralville Civil Service Commission: 1 opening
The Coralville Civil Service Commission exercises all the responsibilities and duties in accordance with the provisions of the Code of Iowa for Civil Service Commissions, this chapter and any policies, rules or procedures adopted by the Civil Service Commission. (City Code, CH. 25) This Commission meets as needed. This opening is for one full 4-year term expiring December 31, 2025. About the Civil Service Commission 

Coralville Parks & Recreation Commission: 2 openings
The Parks & Recreation Commission recommends and reviews policies, rules, regulations, ordinances and budgets relating to parks, playgrounds, recreational services and cultural functions of the City and makes such reports to the Council as the Commission deems is in the public interest. (City Code; CH. 24) Meetings are the third Monday of the month at 7:00 pm. Each opening is for a 3-year term expiring December 31, 2024. About the Parks & Recreation Commission

Planning & Zoning Commission: 2 openings
The Planning and Zoning Commission reviews and comments on Street, Park or Public Improvements as well as plans, plats and re-plats of subdivisions or re-subdivisions in or around the City limits. The Commission shall send its recommendations to the Council before there is a vote on these issues. It exercises all powers, duties & privileges in establishing the City Zoning Regulations and other related matters. (Code Book; CH. 23) Meetings are the first Wednesday of the month at 6:00 pm. Each opening is for a 5-year term expiring December 31, 2026. About the Planning & Zoning Commission


Who Can Apply

  • Any current resident of Coralville is eligible and encouraged to apply for all Board and Commission openings.
  • Any current resident of Johnson County is eligible and encouraged to apply for a Coralville Arts Commission opening. 
  • Diversity, equity, and inclusion will be considered as applications are reviewed.

How to Apply
Pick up an application at Coralville City Hall, Monday through Friday, from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm or download an application

Applications are due at City Hall, 1512 7th Street, or by e-mail to tjohnson@coralville.org, no later than 5:00 pm on Wednesday, November 24, 2021.  Mayor John A. Lundell will recommend appointees to the Council for approval in December.
