The City of Coralville's earth-friendly events in May provide the opportunity to make the most of household items, shred documents, and get rid of things that can no longer be used. Check out these options to reduce, reuse, recycle, and keep usable items out of the landfill:
City Wide Garage Sale: Saturday, May 1, 8:00 am to noonStarting at 8:00 am, stop by the Recreation Center at 1506 8th Street to pick up a map of participating sales throughout Coralville. Donuts and juice will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Free Extra Trash Collection: May 7 &10City of Coralville trash customers will receive one additional free trash cart collection in May. Place any trash or smaller items in the cart on the designated day. This collection is in addition to the regular collection for that week. As usual, tag extra bags of trash that don’t fit in the cart. The free extra collection will occur:
This extra collection is to empty trash carts only. You may still set out recycling, yard waste, and trash on your regular collection day.
Recycle Swap Day: Saturday, May 8, 8:00 am to noonThis free, earth-friendly event in the City Hall parking lot at 1512 7th Street gives a new home to unwanted items and keeps usable items out of the landfill. Donate clean, usable items that are in good condition, or take items donated by others. Furniture, working appliances, household items, books, clothing, and toys are accepted. Community Shred Event: Saturday, May 8, 9:00 am-11:00 amCoralville residents cab bring up to two boxes of personal papers to the Coralville Community Aquatic Center parking lot at 1513 7th Street (next to the City Hall lot) to be shredded on site for free by Heartland Shredding, in partnership with the Coralville Police Department. Mayor’s Spring Clean-Up Week: May 10-14Mayor's Clean Up Week is a great time to set out items too large to fit in your garbage cart—such as broken furniture and bathroom fixtures—for free garbage pickup. Donate Usable Items to Habitat ReStoreUsable furniture and building and housing materials can be donated to the Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity ReStore, located at 2401 Scott Boulevard SE in Iowa City.
