Get rid of broken, unusable items for free garbage pickup, and donate usable items to ReStore

Mayor's Clean Up Week
During Mayor’s Clean Up Week in Coralville, throw away large, broken items that won't fit in your trash cart (such as broken furniture or bathroom fixtures) on your trash day from May 10-14. Some restrictions apply.

This free collection is available to Coralville residents with city trash and recycling services, which serves single family and duplex housing. Mayor's Clean Up Week is for items that need to be thrown away. For all other items, donate to Restore or other area agencies, or or reuse; don't send usable items to the landfill. Where to donate usable items

Place items curbside up to 24 hours before or by 7:00 am on your regular trash collection day. If any items are not picked up, remove them from the curb within 24 hours after collection day. Metal is picked up by a separate truck to be recycled, and may be picked up on a day that is different from your regular collection day.

Guidelines
Please note the following restrictions:

  • Items must be able to be reasonably lifted by two people.
  • Items must fit in the garbage truck. Dismantle large items.
  • See www.coralville.org/cleanup for a full list of what we’ll take. Unaccepted items include construction materials, appliances, electronics, tires, hazardous materials, pallets, wooden swingsets, hot tubs, railroad ties, concrete brick or block, or any items that are a hazard to garbage trucks or personnel. (Appliances, electronics, and tires can be picked up separately by appointment throughout the year; schedule a special pick up).
  • See complete guidelines at www.coralville.org/cleanup or call 319.248.1740.

Tag extra bags of garbage as usual, and put yard waste in recyclable Coralville yard waste bags or in a 33-gallon container with an annual yard waste sticker. For more information, please call 319.248.1740.

Habitat ReStore
To get rid of item that are still usable, donate them to ReStore or other area agencies. Usable furniture and building and housing materials can be donated to the Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity ReStore, located at 2401 Scott Boulevard SE in Iowa City. ReStore sells the items and keeps usable materials out of the landfill; proceeds support Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity, and donations are tax-deductible.

ReStore accepts shelving, appliances, furniture, building and plumbing supplies, hardware, tools, cabinets, lighting, doors, windows, tile, flooring, and more. Donations are accepted Wednesday through Saturday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Free pickup is available. To schedule a pickup or learn more, visit www.iowacityrestore.com or call 319.338.5687.
