Coralville Transit Resumes Regular Service & Fare Collection Beginning August 17

Coralville Transit Bus

Coralville Transit will resume regular routes and services beginning Monday, August 17, and will begin collecting fares again.

In March 2020, Coralville Transit temporarily adjusted bus schedules based on changes in bus ridership, and paused fare collection at that time. Those changes will no longer be in effect beginning August 17 as ridership is expected to increase with the start of the school year.

Bus Routes

  • Lantern Park and 10th Street Routes: Lantern Park and 10th Street Routes will return to their usual schedules. These routes had temporarily been running once an hour during peak hours since late March. Starting August 17, they will resume running every 30 minutes during peak hours.
  • Night Route: The hours that the Night Route bus departs the downtown Iowa City interchange will resume normal schedules. Starting August 17, the final Night Route bus of the evening departs the downtown Iowa City interchange at 11:20 pm, with service ending at 12:02 am.
  • North Liberty Route: The North Liberty route will resume operating on Monday, August 17. This route has been temporarily suspended since late March.
  • Saturday Route: The hours that the Saturday Route bus departs the downtown Iowa City interchange will resume normal schedules. Starting August 17, the final Saturday Route bus of the evening departs the downtown Iowa City interchange at 7:30 pm, with service ending at 8:09 pm.
  • Other Routes: The AM Express, Express, and 1st Avenue schedules were not impacted.

Fares Will Be Collected

Coralville Transit will once again collect fares beginning Monday, August 17. The rate remains the same; fares for adults and children five years old and older is $1.00; free for riders younger than five years of age; and $.75 for youth ages five to 15 years old weekdays from 6:00 pm to midnight, and all day Saturday.

Face Coverings/Masks

Beginning August 10, face coverings/masks are required on public transportation, including Coralville Transit, to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 as ordered by the Johnson County Department of Public Health and the Johnson County Board of Supervisors.

All riders should practice social distancing at bus stops, and when boarding, riding, and exiting the bus. That means keeping at least six feet between yourself and others when possible.

In addition, Coralville Transit continues the following practices:

  • Buses are thoroughly sanitized each day, including seats, commonly-touched surfaces, and the driver’s area.
  • Drivers have access to disinfecting wipes and hand sanitizer at all times.
  • Signs are on the buses to remind riders of good hygiene practices to stop the spread of germs.

Use Front Doors to Board & Exit

Riders should board the bus using the front doors, and exit using the rear doors. The front door remains available for riders with mobility concerns to board and exit.
