Flood protection

Tour Coralville’s Flood Protection Improvements

View the system of berms, flood walls, & more

Monday, June 11 | Tours at 12:30 pm & 5:30 pm

Coralville marks the 10 year anniversary of the historic flood of 2008 with bus tours highlighting the City’s work to protect from future flooding.

Sign up for a free, guided bus tour of the flood protection improvements that have been constructed since 2008. Staff will provide information about the improvements, how they work, and what they protect.
 
Tours will last approximately one hour; reservations are required to ensure adequate seating. Free tour


Finishing 1st

Progress Continues on Major Road Reconstruction Projects

1st Avenue

1st Avenue is reduced to one lane in each direction from just south of 6th Street to just south of 9th Street. The lane reduction will remain in place until late August when reconstruction on the west half of the 1st Avenue project should be complete.
 
6th Street remains closed from 1st Avenue to the Baymont Inn & Suites driveway until late July. Coralville Transit riders may experience delays, with reroutes for a few stops on 6th Street near 1st Avenue. 1st Avenue improvements

Coral Ridge Ave improvements

Coral Ridge Avenue

Coral Ridge Avenue detours using Oakdale Boulevard, Crosspark Road, and Wheaton Road. The detour will last until mid-November.

Most of the reconstructed Coral Ridge Avenue and Oakdale Boulevard intersection is expected to reopen before July 4, including the additional turn lanes on Oakdale Boulevard. Coral Ridge Avenue improvement


Firefighters Memorial Service

Iowa Firefighters Memorial Service

A tribute to Iowa firefighters

Sunday, June 10 | 10:30 am

The annual memorial service at the Iowa Firefighters Memorial honors the courage and service of Iowa firefighters.
 
Names are added to the wall honoring Iowa firefighters who served their fire department at least ten years and have passed away, and Iowa firefighters killed in the line of duty. In addition to the memorial service, a candlelight service will be held on Saturday, June 9 at dusk. Memorial service


4thFest 5k

Register Now for the Coralville 4thFest 5K

Early bird pricing through June 15

Whether you’re a first-time runner or a seasoned vet, kick off Coralville’s annual 4th of July celebration with the 4thFest 5K run/walk on Saturday, June 30 at 8:00 am.
 
Cross a race off your bucket list, chase a PR, or do it for the t-shirt; awards are given for the top finishers in each age group. Kids age 8 and younger can run in the free Firecracker Mini-Marathon afterward. If you’re not hitting the pavement, mark your calendar to cheer for the runners along the route. 4thFest 5K

The Quire presents "Out of the Shadows"

Saturday, June 9 | 7:00 pm

At this special storytelling event, The Quire of Eastern Iowa performs commissioned works from local musicians, Cincinnati musician and composer Steve Milloy, as well as musical reworkings of poetry by acclaimed American poet, storyteller, activist, and autobiographer Maya Angelou.

Return to the Forbidden Planet

Friday, June 15 & Saturday, June 16 | 7:30 pm
Sunday, June 17 | 2:00 pm

Presented by City Circle Acting Company. City Circle’s annual teen show is a jukebox musical based on Shakespeare’s The Tempest and the 1956 science fiction film Forbidden Planet. It’s a delightful mix of classic 1950s sci-fi with the big rock-&-roll hits of the 1950s and 1960s.

Change of Seasons Party

Sunday, June 24 | 2:30 pm

City Circle Acting Company and Young Footliters Youth Theatre invite volunteers, donors, and patrons to a special celebration of the 2017-2018 season, and a sneak peak of the great season to come.

Summer reading & activities

It's not too late to sign up for the Summer Reading Program. Register online or at the library, explore the calendar of events, and visit the library for great books to start the summer. There is a program for everyone: children, teens, and adults. Sponsored by Hills Bank & Trust and other local organizations and businesses.

Movie musicals: Fiddler on the Roof

Thursday, June 7 | 6:00-7:45 pm

Leave the library singing such songs as "If I Were a Rich Man," "Tradition," and "Sunrise, Sunset." This screening is part of the library’s free movie musical showings in June and July. Movie musicals


Beats & books

Friday, June 8 | 4:30 pm-6:00 pm

The Eastenders will play in the rotunda inside the library. This eclectic folk music group plays fiddle tunes and sings songs in four part harmony with guitars, mandolins, fiddles, and a melodian. A treat for the ears! Music at the library


LitFlicks free film: Wonder Woman

Wednesday, June 13 | 6:00 pm-8:30 pm

An Amazon princess being trained as the ultimate warrior discovers her full powers and her ultimate destiny. Based on the DC Comics character. Refreshments, including freshly popped popcorn, will be provided! Free movie
