'Tis the Season to Recycle

Holiday wrappings

Don't be caught on the naughty list when it comes to holiday recycling. Cardboard wrapping paper tubes, cards and envelopes without foil or embellishments, and some types of tissue paper can be recycled. While gift wrap and bubble wrap cannot be recycled, they may be reused. Recycle holiday wrappings

Holiday trees & greenery

Throughout January, we'll pick up live holiday trees at the curb. To be recycle-ready, greenery should be free of decorations, lights, bags, and stands. Recycle Christmas trees

Holiday lights

Recycle holiday lights at four drop-off locations in Coralville until January 8. Recycle holiday lights

The Right Place for Cardboard

Mandatory cardboard recycling begins

Corrugated cardboard is recyclable and will not be allowed in your trash beginning January 2. The Iowa City Landfill is instituting a corrugated cardboard ban for their service area, which will divert about 4,000 tons of cardboard from the landfill each year.  Recycle cardboard curbside, at the Coralville Drop-Off Recycling Center, or at any recycling drop-off site in Johnson County.

Pizza boxes

Cardboard that has food on it cannot be recycled. If pizza boxes are messy, tear off the top of the box to recycle the clean part, and place the greasy part in the trash.
