Community Shred Day

Shred It & Forget It

Free document shredding

Saturday, October 14 | 8:00 am-12:00 pm

Clean out your filing cabinet, help prevent identity theft, and securely shred and recycle documents for free in the mobile shredding trucks in the City Hall parking lot. The shredding machines will process all fasteners, so there is no need to remove them. This event will be held rain or shine.  Learn more

A Warm Welcome & Tasty Chili

Annual open house and chili supper

Sunday, October 15

Visit with firefighters, learn about fire safety, and have a bowl of chili at two events at the 5th Street fire station:
 
Visit the Coralville Fire Department’s open house from 12:00-4:00 pm to talk with firefighters, enjoy refreshments, and learn about fire safety and prevention.

Following the open house, the department will host their annual chili supper from 4:00-8:00 pm; free will donations will benefit the Coralville Fire Department and the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Learn more


2017 Coralville Election

City Election Countdown Begins

Candidate forums are open to the public

The office of Mayor and three City Council positions are on the ballot for the Coralville city election on Tuesday, November 7.
 
Two candidate forums are scheduled:

  • Monday, October 16: 6:00-8:00 pm at Coralville City Hall (hosted by the Iowa City Area Chamber of Commerce)
  • Wednesday, November 1: 6:30-8:00 pm at the Coralville Public Library (hosted by the League of Women Voters of Johnson County)

These forums are open to the public and will be rebroadcast online and on CoralVision. Learn more


Blood drive

Be a Hero Without a Badge

Roll up your sleeves and donate blood

Friday, October 20 | 1:00-5:00 pm

The Coralville Police Department and the University of Iowa DeGowin Blood Center are again teaming up for a community blood drive at City Hall. One donation can save up to three lives!  Appointments are encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome. Learn more

Presented by the University of Iowa School of Music. In this supernatural opera experience, Madame Flora’s séances blur the line between make-believe and reality, sending Flora down a hauntingly perilous path. Directed by Bill Theisen and conducted by William LaRue Jones.

Tonight! Tonight! The Music of Leonard Bernstein

Saturday, October 21 | 7:30 pm

Presented by the Coralville Center for the Performing Arts. Celebrate the hundredth birthday of Leonard Bernstein (just a bit early) when the CCPA Orchestra takes the stage to share some of Bernstein's most iconic music under the baton of Dr. Ed Kottick.

What’s Happening at the Library

Alexander Chee to Receive Paul Engle Prize

Thursday, October 12 | 7:00 pm

Alexander Chee will receive the Paul Engle Prize, presented by the Iowa City UNESCO City of Literature organization, during a ceremony at the Coralville Public Library as part of the Iowa City Book Festival.
 
The event will include remarks by Chee and a conversation between Chee and Iowa City novelist Garth Greenwell. A reception and book signing will follow. The Library will close at 5:00 pm to prepare for this event, which is free and open to the public. Learn more

Spooky Tubas

Saturday, October 14 | 10:30-11:00 am

Costumed guests from the University of Iowa's Tuba-Euphonium studio, Collegium Tubum, will perform in Schwab Auditorium for a special family storytime. Come in costume and bring the family for this spooktacular event.  Learn more

Novel Conversations: The Butterfly Mosque

Thursday, October 19 | 7:00 pm

In this year's One Community, One Book selection, journalist G. Willow Wilson relates the remarkable story of her conversion to Islam and her marriage to an Egyptian man in a volatile post-9/11 world. Learn more
