Just Shred It

Free document shredding

Saturday, October 13 | 8:00 am-12:00 pm

Clean out your filing cabinet, load unwanted personal papers into cardboard boxes, and securely shred and recycle documents for free. The shredding machines in the mobile shredding trucks will process all fasteners – even staples and paper clips! This event will be held rain or shine in the City Hall parking lot. Shredding

Open House & Chili Supper

Sunday, October 14 | 12:00-4:00 pm

The annual fire department open house at the 5th Street station includes fire station tours, a kids fire extinguisher game, equipment on display, fire prevention and safety tips, fire trucks to explore, and a chance to meet Coralville’s new fire chief. Stop by and say hello!

Warm up with a bowl of chili

Sunday, October 14 | 4:00-8:00 pm

Grab a bowl of tasty chili at the fire department’s annual chili supper (there’s an option for vegetarians, too). Free will donations benefit the Coralville Fire Department, the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), and the St. Florian Fire and Burn Foundation.

1st Avenue

1st Avenue remains reduced to one lane in each direction from just south of 6th Street to just south of 9th Street. Work continues to complete the pedestrian path along the entire west side of 1st Avenue. Subgrade is being prepared for the new northbound lanes of 1st Avenue south of Super 8.
 
Reconstruction on the west half of the 1st Avenue project should be substantially complete later this month. Head-to-head traffic is expected to shift onto the new west half of the 1st Avenue pavement the week of October 22 so work can begin on the east half.

Coral Ridge Ave

Coral Ridge Avenue

Work continues this week on final grading and topsoil placement along the east side of Coral Ridge Avenue, turn lane and side street paving connections, roadway lighting foundations, and traffic signal pole work at Coral Ridge Avenue and Oakdale Boulevard.
 
One lane of traffic in each direction is expected to move onto the new Coral Ridge Avenue pavement between Oakdale Boulevard and Wheaton Road the week of October 22. Northbound Coral Ridge Avenue traffic will then shift back to the west half of the road at Wheaton Road while paving work continues on the east half up to Forevergreen Road. The project is scheduled for substantial completion in mid-November.

Fall Hours at Divots

Have lunch overlooking Brown Deer Golf Club

With the arrival of fall, Divots! Bar and Restaurant will adjust hours for the season:

  • Through October 14, Divots will be open daily for lunch and dinner. 
  • Starting October 15, Divots will be open for lunch from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, with beverages and snacks for golfers during golf course hours. 
  • Divots will close for the season on November 11, with golf service only past this date.
