Back-to-School Traffic Safety

School Zone Coralville CentraI

As students and teachers return to school, the Coralville Police Department would like to remind motorists and pedestrians to observe applicable laws near school zones.

Reminders to Drivers

  • When approaching a marked school zone, obey the posted speed limit and be aware that children may be attempting to cross the street.
  • Passing a school bus with a stop arm extended or which has flashing red or amber lights is illegal. This can result in a citation that will cost at least $250 or up to 30 days in jail. The Iowa Department of Transportation will also impose a 30-day suspension of your driving privileges.
