Citizens Police Academy

About the Academy
The Johnson County Citizens Police Academy works to promote a better relationship between law enforcement and the community it serves through education and hands-on learning. Law enforcement officers and guest instructors meet with participants once a week for 12 weeks for classroom and hands-on instruction.

2016 Academy Details
Sessions will be held Mondays, January 25 through April 18, 2016, from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm. Unless otherwise noted, all classes will be held at the Johnson County Emergency Communications Center at 4529 Melrose Avenue in Iowa City (located behind Chatham Oaks west of Highway 218).  Download a brochure.

How to Apply

  1. Download an application or pick one up at the Coralville Police Department, Iowa City Police Department, North Liberty Police Department, Johnson County Sheriff's Office, and the University of Iowa Police Department. 
  2. Please mail or hand-deliver completed application with payment fee of $25.00 to:
