Citizens Police Academy

About the Academy


The Johnson County Citizens Police Academy works to promote a better relationship between law enforcement and the community it serves through education and hands-on learning. Law enforcement officers and guest instructors meet with participants once a week for 14 weeks for classroom and hands-on instruction.

How to Apply


  1. Download an application or pick one up at the Coralville Police Department, Iowa City Police Department, North Liberty Police Department, Johnson County Sheriff's Office, and the University of Iowa Police Department. 
  2. Submit completed application*, with a materials/supplies fee of $25.00 payable to the Citizens Police Academy, to:

    *Application and fee must be received by 5:00 pm on January 27, 2017 to be considered.
  4. Accepted applicants must complete a media waiver (download PDF).
